The terrorism scare I wrote about yesterday — the “Christmas Bomber” — unleashed a firestorm of finger pointing this week from both parties in a filthy example of the US political environment going into 2010. New decade, new hopes, new fears, same old politics. Republicans wasted absolutely zero time in coming out publicly to ridicule the Democrat leadership for their apparent lack of appointed (and competent) security at the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA). I guess it’s only natural for them. They’re the party promising a strong military and defense, the protecters of a vulnerable America in a scary new millennium, the knights. Not to mention they need to posture themselves in any way for the upcoming 2010 elections; if things keep going the way they’re going for the Democrats, it could be banner year for Congressional Republicans. Several public statements made yesterday and today by fairly high-ranking GOP’ers were countered by Democrats in one of the most partisan reactions to an (attempted) act of terrorism we’ve seen since the 80′s. That side of the aisle is pointing out that Republicans shot down a TSA funding bill which included “explosives detection systems and other aviation security measures”. What I don’t understand is that the bill was a 2010 bill, so it wouldn’t have been enacted until the start of the new year, at least. It just wouldn’t feel like the end of the year in this country without a little finger pointing from our politicians. Don’t we just LOVE the blame game?
