You exaggerate. The used method is like with commercials. Of course this has disadvantages. You can also ignore that and look at the effects: money is collected for the intended purpose. The West has its ways to deal with things. They also organize banquets for instance – for Haiti, yes. So one could say: “Going to consume food in order to help starving people is hypocritical”. Or you can separate the (often sullen) mechanisms from the (good) purposes they serve, and be glad something is being done this way.
