As always is the case, The Daily Show‘s satirical analysis of the recently approved Arizona immigration bill was so humorously true it’s scary. The bill is causing quite a stir. Hell, even neo-conservatives like Jeb Bush and Tom Tancredo have come out in strong opposition to the bill. Bush said it would put law enforcement into “impossible situations”, and Tancredo said in plain language it is “going too far”. If you haven’t heard, the bill is Arizona SB1070 (or the Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act; who names these f*cking things??). The Bill makes proving one’s citizenship, by presumably carrying around your papers ala 1984 Totalitarianism or even Italian Fascism, State law, and failure to do so a crime punishable up to $500 fine and/or six months in jail. Not only that, but obviously many of the Bill’s detractors say that the only way the Bill can work is to encourage and use racial profiling amongst law enforcement. Because of those fears, several law enforcement agencies in Arizona have actually come out in opposition to the Bill. In a way, the Constitutionality of the Senate Bill could be called into question, as the Constitution specifically states that only the Federal government can enact and enforce immigration laws. There likely will be several — if not many — lawsuits filed against the Bill.
