I’m avoiding the Gulf of Mexico oil spill/BP cluster f*ck today in an attempt to curb repetition. Suffice it to say, it’s a messed up situation and those British Petroleum pigs have now surpassed 10,000 barrels of oil. More on that later. And there’s also that disturbing situation over off the coast of Israel. But I thought this was an interesting story:
A US intelligence analyst has been arrested after being suspected of leaking classified videos and documents the growing website/movement, WikiLeaks. Bradley Manning is 22 years old and an information/analytical specialist hailing from Maryland. Apparently a former hacker turned the young man in as he feared Mr. Manning represented a “threat to national security”. The video in question is that now famous helicopter camera footage of the United States military supposedly killing civilians in Baghdad in 2007. When it first released, we posted it HERE. WikiLeaks never actually confirmed Manning’s involvement in the controversial video, and they likely will not as it’s their policy to keep contributors confidential. The ex-hacker, Adrian Lamo, claimed that Manning was “boasting” about the leak to him. Lamo also claims that Manning says he holds a video of an Afghanistan air-strike and over 250 thousand other pieces of sensitive information. “A lot of people have labelled me a snitch,” Lamo told BBC News. “I guess I deserve that on this one but not as a generality.”
