It always seems crazy to me that LeBron James, a 6′8″ 260-pound small forward, would be compared to the likes of Michael Jordan, who is a 6′6″ 220-pound shooting guard.

If anything, my opinion would be that Dwyane Wade is closer than anyone to being the next Michael Jordan. Now you may think I would be crazy that Wade would be considered closer to LeBron because of Kobe Bryant and everything, but its’ true.

How?

Wade puts up big numbers every year. He has the statistical guy and year-in and year-out, it’s always the Miami Heat that is on his back, and he carries them. He’s always “the guy.” He’s a fierce dunker and shows great athleticism.

He would do anything for his team. And Michael Jordan is just like that. And like Jordan, Wade has his own Pippen in LeBron James. And he has his own Bill Cartwright, or possibly a better version, in Chris Bosh.

When you think of it, LeBron can’t be compared to Jordan. LeBron is a small forward and a bigger than Jordan. They just can’t be compared. The closest guy he can be compared to will be Magic Johnson.

Before, with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was considered that Michael Jordan guy for them. But now, LBJ will play a new role as he enters Miami to play for the Heat, otherwise known as the South Beach Superteam. LeBron will be the Magic.

Magic wall tall and big for his position. James will pretty much play the point forward role, a point guard and small forward combined. James will be the man racking up about 20 points per game, with ten assists, and ten rebounds. He could be the first man of his generation to average a triple-double.

And it may very well be possible.

Magic has done this and has taken over with his size. He had his Chris Bosh in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and his James Worthy in Dwyane Wade. If anything, LeBron James should be compared to the likes of Magic Johnson once the 2010 season starts.

It’s a start of a new career. He’s going to be a new type of player.

As we were mistakenly comparing him to the MJ in Michael Jordan, he is truly a comparison the other MJ.

And his name is Magic Johnson.

We got some good NBA news and rumors today, so stick around as I give you the goods.

Today is the big day. We have already seen a bunch of NBA free agents cashed in with new teams. Today is where LeBron James gives out his big announcement of which team he will be playing for as the 2010-11 NBA season approaches. He will announce his decision at 9 P.M. tonight. I literally can’t wait. Well, we already have a good taste of where he might be going. I have a good friend named Daniel Barber, who is a Miami Heat writer for BleacherReport.com, and he is dying for a superteam to happen in Miami. Now it may be possible. According to several reports, the Heat have signed both Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Could they both have $16.6M deals like Pat Riley has said. Probably. According to ESPN, the small forward says he is leaning towards Miami to join Bosh and Wade. But a lot of people are telling him not to go to Miami, such as New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul. Paul wants James, actually urges James, to stay in Cleveland and let new head coach Byron Scott coach him with the Cavaliers. It’s going to be interesting.

“I wasn’t sure if LeBron was coming back [to Cleveland] and I just wanted to leave that decision up to him,” Bosh said. “I wanted to choose the best situation for me and my family, and Miami was the best decision for me.”

There’s also a new salary cap rule that will take effect soon as the Heat have a bigger advantage now. James should lean towards Miami.

“We’ll see what the best thing is for us to win,” Wade told The Associated Press. “I’m going to make a lot of money, no matter what happens. I’ve been blessed. I’m not counting every dollar and every cent. Let’s sit down, let’s see what the best thing is for us, for the long haul.”

“We want to build a dynasty,” Miami Heat president Pat Riley had told fans entering free agency.

Other teams that are in James’ books are the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, and of course: the Cleveland Cavaliers. I am really looking forward to his decision. If he picks a new team, you bet I’m getting a new jersey.

In other reports, Carlos Boozer signed with the Chicago Bulls as it was a five-year $80M deal. A more detailed post will be coming soon regarding this situation. Along with that, Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant signed a five-year $86M extension with the team. Boston Celtics’ shooting guard Ray Allen re-signed to a $20M deal for a span of two years. Vinny Del Negro, who got fired by the Chicago Bulls as head coach, is the new head coach for the Los Angeles Clippers. Miami Heat center Jermaine O’Neal is leaning towards the Boston Celtics as his new team. Other teams that he may go for are the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, and the Denver Nuggets.

According to the New York Daily News, Donnie Walsh says that if the New York Knicks do not land LeBron James, they will do a sign-and-trade that sends David Lee to the Golden State Warriors for Anthony Randolph and Ronny Turiaf. According to several reports, Ronnie Brewer could return to the Utah Jazz and leave the Memphis Grizzlies. According to Fanhouse, Shaquille O’Neal likes the San Antonio Spurs. Could it be his new team?

My question is, if Aphrodite didn’t have Kylie’s name on the cover, how many people would even give it a second listen ?

In her second major release since her cancer treatment, the Australian superstar has given us an upbeat collection of electropop dance tunes. It’s competently enough produced by Stuart Price, but there’s nothing on it that shouts out “great pop diva !”. There’s nothing remarkable or even very interesting about it musically – except for Kylie’s presence, and even that is marked out only by her distinctive breathy vocals and the sense of joy that she imparts to the songs.

Initially it seems that the record company had hoped that the new album would reflect a more mature side to the 42 year old singer. UK songwriter Nerina Pallot was taken on as a major collaborator. But recording sessions didn’t go so well, and finally it was decided to bring in Price, fresh from making the new Scissor Sisters album. Price’s approach was basically to give all the tracks a funked up electronic sound – he bragged that there would be no ballads on Aphrodite.

The end result is an album that’s cohesive, but rather dull, and which gives very little insight into Kylie the person. (When asked the question “what would we find out about you from Aphrodite?” all Kylie could say was that “this album is more about being in a pretty happy in my moment in my life.”) Aphrodite is the name of the Greek goddess of beauty and love, but this isn’t an album with any big themes, nor is it particularly sexual. The songs have light, playful, throwaway lyrics aimed at 9 year old girls just as much as their 29 year old mums. If they’re meant as a celebration of being alive, it would be easier to join in if both music and lyrics didn’t feel so recycled. Choruses such as “Put your hands up if you feel love tonight” and “What’s the point of living if you don’t want to dance?” feel less than inspiring. Recommended tracks here are Closer and All The Lovers; but there are too many bland synth beats on this album and not enough melody or soul.

The city of Cleveland is a simply cursed place. Well, at least when you refer to sports. The Cleveland Browns beat the Baltimore Colts, led by Jim Brown, in a title game. It was back in the 1960’s. Since then, no professional Cleveland sports team has ever won a championship.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have never been good at all. Before LeBron James, the main highlight of the Cavs was Michael Jordan’s game-winner over the team. Same goes for the Cleveland Browns, who were known for those losses to the Denver Broncos. The Drive, the Fumble. And the Indians? Yeah, they are good, but they can never got a World Series win. And it seems the Chicago Cubs will get one before them.

Just simply put it that the city of Cleveland is cursed. We already have blogs out there that have something to do with the Cleveland sports curse. Here’s a couple blogs to name a few: CurseofCleveland.com, ClevelandFrowns.com, and WaitingforNextYear.com.

So far, the best thing Cleveland has is LeBron James. He led the 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers to their first 60-win season. But they couldn’t get the ring. Before that, the Cavs made it to the NBA Finals, but their run ended short by getting swept from the San Antonio Spurs. It was the first team a Cleveland sports team made it to a championship game since the Browns in the 1960’s.

And LeBron James helped make that happen. Now you have it that he is The King or that he is the Akron Hammer. But the small forward’s legacy is still not satisfied. He needs a ring. And now, there are a bunch of opportunities coming for him, as he has a chance to go to teams like the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and others.

But really. Even if LeBron wins three rings over there, his legacy still won’t be great. If I were LeBron, I’d rather take four rings in Cleveland than ten rings with another team. Why? Well, to all the sports critics out there: if James brings a title to Cleveland, nobody can beat his legacy except maybe His Airness. I’d like to see anybody else bring a title to Cleveland.

Even with one ring, James can be considered one of the best to ever play the game of basketball. Why? Because it’s Cleveland. And now, all the hype is here. It’s the blockbuster free agency. And what should LeBron do? Should it be New York? What should it be?

It’s Cleveland.

Sure, James may have been shocked when the fans booed him in Game Five of the NBA Semifinals Round of the Playoffs versus the Boston Celtics. We know what happened there. And if he goes to a city like New York, Los Angeles, or New Jersey, the fans will be putting way too much pressure. And if he doesn’t fulfill the fans, he’ll be considered a failure.

I don’t think James can handle that. I don’t think he can handle leaving his hometown more. Everything was made here. Why else is he already being considered better than Kobe Bryant or the next coming of Michael Jordan, even without a ring? It’s Cleveland. And, yes, this is a bit of exaggeration, but if he wins a ring with Cleveland: he’ll be the emperor of Ohio. Fans will praise him all over Ohio.

It’ll be more hyped than Joe Namath bringing a Super Bowl to the city of New York when he dropped the Indianapolis Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III.

James’ legacy will be just amazing. Face it: having one ring in Cleveland is a lot bigger than three rings in Miami. Like Dwyane Wade, LeBron James has to stay. He has a lot coming for him. Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Shaquille O’Neal and Delonte West will be gone. The Cavs will find a way to deal Mo Williams.

There’s a possibility of sending maybe Antwan Jamison, Mo Williams, and maybe some cash to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Chris Bosh and/or Jose Calderon. This would mean a lot.

LeBron James should also pick Cleveland because of the money. Hell, he could receive $30M more than what the other teams can offer as their max. Which is why LeBron should do a lower salary to possibly bring in another player. I just have a feeling that James should lower his salary to bring in one more guy.

Who can that guy be? If Joe Johnson wants to win a championship, maybe he could come over to Cleveland. The Cavs have the cap space. Or maybe Raymond Felton. Josh Childress? It’s possible. They could also get maybe Michael Beasley or Jermaine O’Neal. Udonis Haslem could also be an option.

I also have a trade scenario. The Cavs could trade Mo Williams and some cash to the Indiana Pacers to Troy Murphy and Josh McRoberts. Something like that. But I think the Raptors’ trade would make a lot more sense.

Right now, the free agency is less than ten hours away or something along those lines. James should be making the decision already of staying in his hometown.

James wants to be considered a hero and if he wants to be praised and loved by all over the nation…

Staying in Cleveland is the right choice.

Possibly the most impartial form of government remaining in this country (can’t speak for elsewhere) is the United States Supreme Court.  Sure, there’s some idealism inherently involved in making such decisions; but there is nothing wrong with impartial idealism, it’s slanted idealism that frightens me.  As much as Scalia is a right-winger, or Ginsburg is a leftist, each Justice votes based on nothing more than their interpretations of the law and Constitution and their own moral boundaries.

Today the Court released its final decision on an important ruling for pro-gun rights camps and anti-gun ownership folk alike: the Constitutionality of a handgun ban in Chicago.  The vote was a close one, as most are at the highest level; the final ruling was 5 to 4 voting the ban was indeed unconstitutional.  The majority voters obviously cited the second amendment in their vote, as well as an implied right to defend oneself as some argue is part of the “right to life” in the first amendment.  But that is precisely the problem with the constitution, it’s sheer vagueness.  The reach of the second amendment has been debated for years and years, and once again it all comes down to interpretation.

A ban on handguns in Washington DC was judged unconstitutional two years ago.  But critics of today’s decision point out that DC/Chicago is like apples and oranges.  DC is a federal city, not a state. Which is an important distinction because state rights/laws and federal rights/laws are two very different things.  This ruling is important and will strike valuable precedence because the Court outright stated that the Second Amendment “applies equally to the federal government and the states”.  The ruling is certainly a large blow to anti-gun activists, and will extend gun rights for years and years to come for every state in the Union.

This had been brewing for days and days now.  General Stanley McChrystal agreed to do an interview for a forthcoming Rolling Stone issue (I used to really like that magazine, before it turned into a political machine…) in which he blatantly riffed on senior White House officials, such as VP Joe Biden and national security adviser James Jones.  McChrystal has since said that his comments were a mistake and showed “poor judgment”.  Obama has emphatically stated that the policy/strategy will not change, that this is only a “personnel” change.  Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has shown signs of wanting to the US to keep McChrystal as head commander of the region; one of Karzai’s spokesman said he was the best US commander in Afghanistan since the war began.  Karzai has had his own issues with many outlets accusing him of corruption as president.  John McCain will surely be creaming his pants over the news, however, as his man-crush General David Petraeus will be taking over the beleaguered McChrystal’s position.  Petraeus was the General who spearheaded the successful so called “surge” in Iraq, his qualifications certainly meet what is needed in Afghanistan.  [Writer's Opinion Disclaimer]  We’ve been over there for nearly 10 years, can’t we pullout yet??  Jesus.

The web is awash with free music. Anyone who’s used search engines to search for music will be aware that there’s countless sites which allow you to download tracks and even whole albums for free. So what’s the best place to look for free music ? And should we even be doing this ?

These are legal downloads. What the record companies tell us is that illegal downloading is piracy, and is taking bread from the mouths of musicians. But is it really that simple ? You may download something because it’s free, but you wouldn’t necessarily have gone out and bought it otherwise, so you may wonder who’s losing out ? One answer is that those most likely to lose out are the biggest most successful artists. It can actually help newer artists trying to establish themselves if more of their music is out there, being blogged and being talked about. If you become a fan of a band this way, maybe you’ll go and see them when they’re on tour, and who knows, maybe you’ll even get an urge to own hard copies of their cds.

The record labels are continuing to wage war on the pirates, but a few of the artists themselves are saying that this is more about the labels protecting their own business. Thom Yorke of Radiohead believes that the music establishment is dying, and that this would be “no great loss to the world”. His point is that when music used to be something that you bought in the stores you needed big record companies to distribute it, but now that it’s so easy to self-produce and self-publish your music, why should the record companies still take a cut ?

In reality most of the big labels will survive because they’re smart enough to stay one step ahead of the game. Expect to see them finding more and more ways to tap into the free music market while finding new ways of making money for themselves and for the artists. Spotify is a good example of what the future might look like. Set up in collaboration with the major record labels, it’s easy to sign up to, and allows you to listen to large amounts of music for free, while giving you the option to pay if you want to download some of it.

Sometimes the labels will ’stream’ new albums, usually for a limited period just before or just after their release, allowing you to listen to and preview the songs but not to download them. Among sites where you can listen legally to new album streams are Spinner, AOL Music and NPR First Listen.

Legal free downloads are typically individual tracks which have been officially ‘leaked’ to promote a new or upcoming album. (Whole albums do get leaked too, but this tends to be by unsigned bands, so you don’t really know what you’re getting.) So much new music is being leaked every week that consumers need an easy way to pick out what’s likely to be worth listening to. This is where music magazines and music blogs come into their own.

As it’s easy enough to get hold of music mags, I’ll focus here on the mp3 blogs. The majority of music bloggers respect the artists and their rights and only look to post music which has been leaked from official sources, and will immediately remove mp3s if asked to do so. They tend to focus on music from indie labels, partly through choice and a desire to promote new music, but also because the major labels prefer to keep control of their product and don’t leak mp3s very often.

The thing is to find blogs that you can trust, which focus on the types of music that you like, and which write about things that interest you. Here’s a small sample of the many blogs around :
